Continuing our relationship with Elton following the Million Dollar Piano in 2011, we wanted this touring show to capture a more, clean and contemporary feel whilst keeping a sense of scale and grandeur. For this show it was a requirement to have the audience in all the seats of the arena. This meant that design needed to create an environment for Elton but without having the traditional back wall or video screen behind the stage. In an Elton show, it is important to keep the focus on the centre area where the piano is.
A large video rake upstage created a low 2m high background behind Elton and the band without blocking the site line from behind. This screen showed atmospheric content that gave an interesting background to Elton whilst not blocking and audience views. Above the stage hung a 40ft diameter kinetic chandelier custom made LED crystals. This was able to receive video signal to change colour and texture through the show. The chandelier was able to change shape during the show to rise and fall to create different looks while Elton played his most famous hits.
The show toured for four months and was performed 37 times.
