STUFISH were delighted to return to work with Indigo Television for the third time to create the 2018 National Television Awards, held at the O2 Arena, and broadcast live on ITV. The design developed from the idea of bringing the joy and colour from TVs in living rooms across the country into the O2 Arena for one night.
With a swirling form that took a cue from the shape of the NTA trophy itself, the set evolved into a spiralling cloud of petals surrounding a circular stage and video screen.
The set was constructed by suspending 2000 multi-coloured petals in various hues forming a rich gradient over the whole stage. These petals were interspersed with 300 programmable LED spheres to emphasise the appearance of swirling movement, while video content on the circular screen enhanced the feeling of depth by continuing the petals back into virtual space behind the stage.
The all-encompassing nature of the 16m high, 32m wide set, created an abstract sculptural look that linked the stage, screen and lighting rig into one unified form. The circular screen was reflected in a circular LED trim set into the glossy black stage surface.
All of the elements of the set worked together to create a unique look for the NTAs that was able to be both delicate and dramatic at the same time.
