U2 performed a one night only, special performance for Dreamfest, part of the the Salesforce 2016 annual event. The show took place in the large car park st the famous cow palace. The San Francisco hills formed the backdrop to the large stage setup in front.
Inspired by the Geneva Drive in movie theatre that is historically located just next to the site, the design of the set was simple but effective. There was a large CinemaScope shaped LED screen 100ft wide and 45ft high. This screen had a simple scenic border around it and large single vertical trusses around the sides of the screen and throughout supported the technical equipment. Above the screen we created a double tower structure that supported large illuminated signs as a remnant of the iconic drive in 50's signography found around the USA. This was used to display the name of the band, the name of the event and the nod to the drive-in.
The stage area was kept quite intimate and then Two large catwalks allowed the band to move deeper into the crowd for more variation with the performance and to allow the fans to get closer to the band.
