The Millennium Show OVO Millennium Dome Central Show 2000 The Central Show in the Millennium Dome Created by Mark Fisher and Peter Gabriel, OVO - The Millennium Show, was universally acclaimed as the most successful entertainment in the Dome. 160 performers and 60 technicians staged the show three times every day during the year 2000; a total of 999 performances. The show was seen by 6.5 million people. The show sketched a parable of man's relationship with the earth - innocence, corruption and enlightenment - in three spectacular technical and acrobatic tableaux. OVO was conceived for the Dome by Mark Fisher (Creative Director) and Peter Gabriel (Music). Working with them were Micha Bergese (Artistic Director), Keith Khan (Costume and 3D Props) and Patrick Woodroffe (Lighting Designer). Mark Fisher writes: In the run up to the year 2000, The Millennium Experience Company, in a sad example of hope over practice, announced that the expected attendance for the year would exceed 12m. The only factual basis for this extraordinary figure was a desire to balance the books. Anybody having a passing acquaintance with the tourist industry would have recognized the figures as complete nonsense from the start. By comparison, the well established and conveniently located Eiffel Tower, widely acclaimed as the most popular urban tourist attraction in the world, managed 5m visitors in 1999. Top London attractions in 2001 were: National Gallery 4.9m British Museum 4.8m The London Eye 3.8m Tate Modern 3.5m When the Millennium Dome closed on 31 December 2000, it had received 6.5m visitors |
