Aquamatrix Lisbon Expo98 Lisboa Producer: ECA2, O Acaso, Espectáculos Director : Alberto Lopez Art Director: Paulo Feliciano Architect: Mark Fisher Music: David Toop Engineer: Atelier One Steelwork: StageCo Belgium Aquamatrix was a pre 9/11 utopian myth: Pre-industrial innocence almost destroyed by the lust of Prometheus but saved by post-modern ecological harmony. Innocence was expressed by a 30m inflatable egg that emerged from the lagoon. It was destroyed by rusting bat-like colliery towers that rose from the water belching fire. Only one man escaped from the cataclysm; a naked innocent in a flying hamster wheel who soared through the night sky to post-industrial Eden. The show was performed in the Doca dos Olivaes, Lisboa, the old seaplane dock that formed the central water feature of the Expo98 site. The show ran from May to September 1998, a total of 133 days. The show ran for 20 minutes. It was presented to approximately 4m people. |
